Friends

Today, I realized how much I appreciate my friends. They are those who may be far from me and those who may be near but I seldom see. I miss the company, the laughs, the stories, the drama and the excitement. I even miss the misadventures. But most of all, I miss the comfort of being with them. The environment with no pretentions. I probably may see them after a long, long time or I may never see them at all. But I know that despite the different experiences that happen to us, that despite the separate paths we are taking and despite the fact that they will also meet other friends of their own... but when I look closely, the character that I loved and continue to love is still present in that person I call a "friend".

I know I will never be who I am today without my friends.

You know who you are. Thank you! :)

Harry Potter Mania

Three more days to go and I can feel the fever.

Yesterday, my Ma, sis and I went to the mall to look for my sister's school shoes. Then we dropped by the Harry Potter display and activities that is currently available from May 29 until June 6 in the Shangri-la Edsa Mall. It was fun! My sis was ogling at all the Harry Potter stuff she lays eyes on. We even watched some magic tricks performed. It was cool.

Then I dropped by the prelude to the Cooking Moot II and met new and old TPTS members. I did not go to the cooking moot since I have a Shrek 2 date with my mother and sister. The movie was hilarious! :)

As I expected I was so tired since I haven't had sleep yet since the time I woke up for work and that was about 8PM on Friday. I was awake for almost 24 hours. My feet were tired but it was all worth it.

Then when we got home, my sis checked Sureseats to check if they already uploaded the Harry Potter:PoA schedules. We always check it out every day. Then we learned that all 3 cinemas in Greenbelt 3 are fully booked in all time slots! Whew! So we had to settle for the not so good seats in Glorietta 4. Not-so-good since all seats located in the middle portion of the cinemas are all taken. Can you believe that?! Geez...

Taho*

I enjoy drinking taho* in the morning. Before, I mix all the ingredients and usually accompany it with a couple of pan de sal* and my breakfast (er... dinner?) would be complete.

Then my mom taught me a new trick today. DO NOT MIX the taho. Just drink it as prepared by Manong magta-taho*. I did it and I found out that I am driven when I know that there is going to be a good result in the end. I am inspired if I know I'd be arriving at a conclusion that would be beneficial to me, and if I know I'd be enjoying what I worked hard to achieve.

How did I know that?

You see, taho ingredients consist mainly of tofu, sago* and caramelized syrup (molasses). Since I did not mix my drink, I ate the sago first, then gulped the "unflavored" and boring tofu chunks. I noticed I was able to finish my drink faster than before. You know why? Coz I was unconsciously eating the tofu faster than I used to because I wanted to get to the bottom part--- the most delicious part for it--- the syrup gathered at the bottom of my glass.

Mmmm... Love it! :)

-------

*pan de sal: national Pinoy bread. Hahaha!
*taho: Pinoy drink taken from Chinese culture. Usually sold in the streets every morning.
*Manong magta-taho: general name for the person who sells taho
*sago: tapioca

Used To Be

Have you ever listened closely to the lyrics of this song?

-------

(by Charlene and Stevie Wonder)

Superman was killed in Dallas
There's no love left in the palace
Someone took the Beatles' lead guitar
Have another Chivas Regal
You're twelve years old and sex is legal
Your parents don't know where or who you are

Used to be the hero of the ballgame
Took the time to shake the loser's hand
Used to be that failure only meant you didn't try
In a world where people gave a damn

Great big wars in little places
Look at all those frightened faces
But don't come here
We just don't have the room

Love thy neighbor's wife and daughter
Cleanse your life with holy water
You don't need to bathe, we've got perfume

Used to be a knight in shining armor
Didn't have to own a shiny car
Dignity and courage were the measure of a man
Not the drugs he needs to hide the scar,

Can your teacher read?
Does your preacher pray?
Does your president have soul?
Have you heard a real good ethnic tale today?

Mama took to speed and daddy ran away
But you musn't lose control,
Let's cut the class,
I got some grass
The kids are wild we just can't tame 'em
Do we have the right to blame them?

Fed them all our indecisions
We wrecked their minds with television
But what the hell, they're too young to feel pain

But I believe that love can save tomorrow
Believe the truth can make us free
Someone tried to say it, then we nailed Him to a Cross
I guess it's still the way it used to be
I'm glad we will have an paid holiday on Monday. It's Memorial Day in the U.S. It's payday too. Whoopee! :)

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Posted by Hello

--------------------

Exactly a week from now (June 2), this movie will be shown and the Filipinos will be one of the first few people who could watch it in the cinemas. "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" has a U.S. release date of June 4. Aren't we glad we're on this side of the planet?

My sister and I were planning to watch it on the first day. I just wish I would have the energy to watch a probably 2-hour movie after a 9-hour shift. I was bargaining with my sis if we can watch it on a weekend or something, but she would not want to hear my pleas. We'll see...

Gary Oldman as Sirius Black is a role I am looking forward to. It's just that I imagine Sirius to be a bit like Jim Caviezel. But then like I said, we'll see...

My sis said this book, where the movie was based of course, was the best book for her in all five books in the Harry Potter series. Then she also said that Alfonso Cuaron, the director, is way better than Chris Columbus, who directed the first two movie. She said that Cuaron was more artistic and did more justice to the book (according to the reviews she read and all the trailers she downloaded) :). Again, we'll see...

In short, I am looking forward to it!

Half Life

I'm awake in the afternoon
I fell asleep in the living room
and it's one of those moments
when everything is so clear
Before the truth goes back into hiding
I want to decide 'cause it's worth deciding
to work on finding something more than this fear
It takes so much out of me to pretend
Tell me now, tell me how to make amends
Maybe, I need to see the daylight
To leave behind this half-life
Don't you see I'm breaking down
Lately, something here don't feel right
this is just a half-life
Is there really no escape?
No escape from time of any kind
I keep trying to understand
This thing and that thing, my fellow man
I guess I'll let you know
When i figure it out
But I don't mind a few mysteries
They can stay that way it's fine by me
And you are another mystery i am missing
It takes so much out of me to pretend

Hello from Picasa

This pic was posted on my blog through Hello from Picasa. :)

Eric Bana as Hector, Prince of Troy. Posted by Hello

The problem...

...with expecting is that more or less you'll get disappointed. Like when I thought I'd be getting my much-deserved "check" from the previous company I worked with. I mean, it's not much (probably about 3K) but then again I didn't get that much last payday because of my absences. So, any amount would greatly help. But no. They wanted us to suffer first before we could get it. What the hell?! For 3K?!

So it's gonna be waiting for two weeks more. I'll be demanding for a breakdown. I heard they give out checks after 3PM on Fridays. That means we gotta wait for Moday to cash it. They better give it to us before the banks close on June 4. I have a sister who needs that before the next school year starts. Damn.

The Sun

I kinda miss it. But I love rain too. And it's rainy season already on this side of the planet. I guess I just miss sleeping at night and I take advantage of that when I have my days off from work. Since it's raining, sleep was a blessing. I woke up refreshed. :)

And I cannot remember
What life was like through photographs
And trying to recreate
Images life gives us from the past
And sometimes its a sad song
But I cannot forget, refuse to regret
So glad I met you and
Take my breath away
Make everyday
With all of the pain that I've gone through
And mama, I've been cryin
Cause things ain't how they used to be
She said, the battles almost won
And we're only several miles from the sun

Viewer's Review

I sent my "Troy" review to "Review Nights" program in Cinema One. I thought I'd give it a try when Ulan announced in the TPTS forum that they will be choosing three reviews. (Thanks ulan! :)) I did not expect they would choose mine. Since we did not have cable connection, I was surprised when some of my friends sent me SMS that they're watching "Review Nights" and Ryan Agoncillo was reading it. Wow!

Now I'd like to find out how I could get those Troy goodies... ;)

Aeneas

Introducing Frankie Fitzgerald who played Aeneas in the movie "Troy".

It's the only picture I can find so far so please bear with me.

Oh, he's only 19. Darn. :(

sleep

What I am doing awake at this time of day?

That's what I kept asking myself while watching MTV. During normal days, I should have been fast asleep on my comfy bed especially since it's raining. I mean, this time can be compared to about 3AM in "normal" people's schedule. I still have work tonight but I don't know why I can't go back to sleep since I woke up at 1PM. Basing on the dark circles under my eyes, I haven't had much sleep these past few days.

I should stop typing this down and close my eyes now...

Argh! I can't.

Troy

*SPOILERS GALORE*

*SPOILERS GALORE*

*SPOILERS GALORE*

The movie with faces that could launch a thousand ships. Finally, I've watched it.

What more could I ask for? I mean, there was Orlando Bloom who played Paris (I never liked the character) and showed off his archery abilities. *sigh* Orlando Bloom still looks good even if he plays a baddie role. Then a thinner Boromir (Sean Bean) came out as Odysseus. I actually expected more from the role of Odysseus, not just someone who would be Agammemon's "puppet" and try to influence Achilles's decisions. I mean, he's the hero of "The Odyssey"! But I guess there are a lot of heroes already in the movie, there's no more room to highlight another one. Of course Brad Pitt fans swooned seeing him naked most of the time. I am not a fan but I have to admit he was good in playing Achilles. Then I never thought Eric Bana would look better in an armor rather than covered in green when he was in "Hulk". Hehehe! As Hector, I think he could have acted better. I mean, I've always admired Hector in the book. Oh well, whenever his face graces the screen I tell myself, "That will do." *wink*

At the opening scene when I heard the music, I was thinking I've heard this style of musical scoring before. I waited until the credits and found out it was James Horner (remember the "Titanic"?). Of course, the women of Troy were beautiful as expected. But I'm not that interested in the women. I'm more interested in the men. Would you believe that when Aeneas appeared on the screen for about 5 seconds, I muttered loudly, "Who IS that?!" Now, let me search more about Frankie Fitzgerald. I can't seem to find any picture of him on the net. (Aeneas actually has his own epic poem Virgil's "Aeneid".) ;)

If I were given a chance, I would love to see it again. It's not just because of my love for epics and myths, but because the movie, in my opinion, is really good. Although I'm quite sure there were discrepancies from the book. When I got home, the first thing I did was open my copy of "Iliad" by Homer and Edith Hamilton's "Mythology" book. I'll be rereading them in my spare time. :)

Day 30

God does not make junk.
I realized each of us has a purpose in life. We are uniquely shaped to fulfill a mission of some sort. Now what I need to find is something to live for, and not something to live on.

We shared 6 hours together and that used to suffice his absence for the next two weeks. But now, I don't know if it will anymore...

Quiz: What LOTR city are you?

Lorien
Lothlorien. You are mysterious, closed off to
strangers, but very elegant.

What LOTR City Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

--------------------

Weird. The picture I was expecting was Lothlorien's. Why Legolas?

Nuninuninu... I can't complain though. He's just gorgeous. :)
I should have attended the TPTS moot yesterday. I should have already watched "Troy". I should be in bed sleeping right now. But no. I am here at work, doing this mandatory OT given to me for this week. But that's ok. I will be having my Saturday and Sunday rest days next week. Looking forward to that.

Friday, May 14, 2004

There's still good in this world...

Despite the fact that I do not like my schedule at work (since I now have Saturday shift) and I do not like the fact that I still have no ATM for my salary (and since I'll be getting cash this payday, I would have to wait for the evening of May 17 to get my friggin' pay)...

*breathe in*

*breathe out*

I am so mad...

*breathe in*

*breathe out*

But then I'm glad I have this supervisor who is not just pretty, but also very considerate to the members of her team. I am lucky to be a part of her time and being under her supervision is one of the nice things that happened to me in this company.

I think it's about time I continue this...

Day 27: Defeating Temptation

Here are some statements that affected me as I read this chapter:

There is always a way out.
God will never give us challenges we cannot face and survive. Like what they say, when God closes a door, He opens a window. We can never get into something without finding a way out.

The more you fight a feeling, the more it consumes and controls you... The more you think about something, the stronger it takes hold of you.
I agree. If it's not a big deal, why take the effort of pondering about it? Why waste time worrying about it if you want it out of your head?

Ignoring a temptation is far more effective than fighting it.
Yeah, like when you want someone to leave you alone, but that someone still keeps on bothering you. Instead of always telling that someone to beat it and be angry at the same time, why not ignore him/her? After a while, he/she will stop bothering you.

Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.
Enough said.

Do you think this is a good advice? Coz it seems like that's what I'm trying to avoid doing right now.
Now I Know

That my allergies did not come from the roasted chicken. It just so happened that I was taking antibiotics for a week and the last medicine I took was a generic. I have nothing against generic meds. They're cheaper but I have learned my lesson. They would be my last option if I can afford the meds the doctor prescribed. I'm glad I only took two generics, so now the allergies are fast disappearing.

Looking forward to the weekend. It seems so far from now...

The Presence

Today, we are together for one year and two months. I'm glad there is still a "WE" after all we've been through.

There's one thing in my mind though that I couldn't seem to easily disregard. A few weeks ago, a friend read me the tarot. It was just for fun. I asked him several questions and one of them was, "How would I know he's 'The One'?" Then he read my cards saying that a difficult challenge will come to my life and if he's there for me, he's my Neo ("The One").

Then after I was hospitalized, I thought what if that was the challenge the cards were referring to. I must admit he was not physically there for me. We talked and exchanged messages but that's it. Now, seeds of doubts are being planted in my mind.

But I won't give up that easily. There are a lot of circumstances ang challenges that are yet about to happen. For once, I want to be optimistic.

Happy 14th Monthsary, Lisse!!!

New Blogger?

I am again adjusting to the new blogger settings... Notable changes are: Blogger now has a comment feature. I guess I have to stick with Haloscan. Then we can now create public profiles. We can even blog through email. But I don't think I'm gonna experiment with that yet. I must have all the time in the world first.

Prayers are more than welcome.

Happy Mother's Day, dear MAMA!!!

...and of course to all mothers out there including my cousins, aunts and Grandma! :)
Last Friday, I had an allergy attack. Until now, my skin is still full of red, tiny dots. I'm just glad they aren't itching. I do not know if this is a delayed reaction of my body to the antibiotics I have been taking since Monday or it's an allergic reaction to the roasted chicken I ate for dinner last Friday.

I just don't know what's wrong with me...

I can't believe there is such a thing as mandatory OT! Who the f*ck invented that?!

Friday, May 07, 2004

Nagpapaka-poetic na naman ako... Got this from "Contact", the book I'm reading right now by Carl Sagan. I like the movie since I look up to Jodie Foster as an actress. She's great! But I love the book! I read the first three chapters before I slept yesterday and I'm hooked.

The Fly

~*William Blake*~

Little Fly,
Thy summer's play
My thoughtless hand
Has brushed away.

Am not I
A fly like thee?
Or art not thou
A man like me?

For I dance
And drink, and sing,
Till some blind hand
Shall brush my wing.

If thought is life
And strength and breath
And the want
Of thought is death;

Then am I
A happy fly,
If I live,
Or if I die.

That, I must do.

---------------------

What's your true nationality?

(NOTE: I knew it! From the sound of my last name, I knew I'm supposed to be German! Hehehe.)

Results:
Say it loud and proud: “Ich bin Deutsch” You would feel most at home in the country of snow-capped Bavarian Alps and the Black Forest, of the Rhine and picturesque Beer gardens.

Your personality makes a good fit in Germany, too. Like many Germans, you have a strong pragmatic mind. You tend to reject fantasy and daydreams and refuse to stray from what is tangible reality. You appreciate order, quality engineering and take pride in your own work; you are efficient, hard working and driven in what you do.

That said, you are also a great pleasure seeker. You have compartmentalized work and play in your life and in your mind: when you are working you are focused only on that, but come play time you are greatly attracted to concrete pleasure. You love nature and robust outdoor activities; cuisine is healthy and hearty; home life is simple and hospitable.

Munich is your soul city, with its picturesque architecture nestled away in the mountains, its warm, hospitable beer gardens and polite, welcoming people who work hard and play hard.

Mood Analysis Test

Results:
You have always longed for tenderness, love and a sensitivity of feeling into which you would like to blend. You are a very gentle warm person and responsive to 'All things bright and beautiful'. This personifies a caring person, a person who 'needs' and indeed 'needs to be needed'.

In actual fact you are not willing to exert yourself in any way. You have that truly 'laid back' attitude and are unwilling to extend yourself or exert undue effort. You feel that to move forward - be it in your life style or in business relationships - would require more energy output than you are prepared to give at this time. You want to take life easy and your attitude is such that 'Enough is Enough'.

Everyone has to compromise at times and circumstances are such that at this time you are feeling the need to do just that. Put all of your hopes on the back burner and let matters flow for a time - forgo some of the things you want. The good times are just around the corner.

Stresses resulting from a recent disappointment have led to considerable trepidation. It would seem that there seems to be so much left undone. Everything surrounds you with that air of uncertainty. You badly need to feel a sense of security and whatever it takes to protect you against further disappointment. At this particular time you doubt that things could be any better in the future but you are sticking to your guns and refusing to take advice from any source.

Since in the recent past all of your hopes and aspirations have been denied you, you are now convinced that the future will hold nothing but anxiety so therefore 'why bother?' You would love to get away from it all, to escape from the trials and tribulations of this mundane existence and fall into a peaceful and harmonious relationship, which will protect you from the lack of appreciation and give you the chance to start afresh.

Infection

Greetings world wide web! Wow, it seems like a long time for me since I last went online!

I went for a routine medical check-up last Sunday. The doctor diagnosed me with Systemic Viral Infection and wanted me to be admitted since he was ruling out Typhoid Fever.

I just came from a 3-day hospital confinement. I was on IV line and was under observation while they were waiting for my lab results and lo! There it was. Salmonella Typhi. Until now, I can't seem to pinpoint where I got the infection.

I'm just thankful that I'm ok now. I'm thankful for my family who will always be there for me, whether I am deserving of their care or not. Of course thank you for the One Mighty Being, whose plans for me I do not dare question.

Saturday, May 01, 2004

I never thought I'd remember how it feels to throw up again. But I did. Twice. It was awful. I hate it when I'm sick like this. I was absent again for work yesterday. I'm feeling better now. I had to report to work because I need to get my salary. So I can finally take some lab tests for this recurring fever. I just hope it is not that serious...
